Facebook, a time-out

·             Took/taking a much-needed break from facebook. My reason isn’t that dramatic or filled with passion, I just felt after seven fun filled years it was time for a break. Some people understand and some people don’t. I felt that I was spending too much time on fb and there is so much drama and nonsense going on that it would be nice to do other things with my time.  Facebook has started to become this platform of “who is smarter than who” , “my political party is better than your political party”, “My quotes are better than your quotes” and the good old "Let's air some serious dirty laundry". Don't forget you can't convey emotion when typing statuses and comments so there's always a chance to piss someone off and lose a friend.  Especially if you forget to put "LOL" at the end of an iffy sarcastic response. With the invention of memes came the convenience of raging hatred and easily veiled phobias posted to ones wall with the click of a mouse. No thought required.

Yes, it is an amazing way to stay connected to family and friends, especially if one lives states or continents away but sometimes a sabbatical can help bring you back to reality. It can help you to put down the phone or back way from the computer, even if it is for a month. Just to gain perspective again. I was/am still logged in on my phone but resist the temptation to interact. I guess I could go all out and deactivate my account like some people do when they take breaks, but I am not “there” yet. For now, I just pass it on by and go straight on to my yahoo mail, twitter or pinterest. Lol. Ahhh the good old Internet. There is always something to keep you occupied if you really feel the need. Then again a good old fashioned phone call or letter is nice too, don't you think? I won't be on break forever, heck I may end this shenanigans tomorrow for all I know, but today I am on a break and I like it.
